A Break, I Guess You Could Say That, At Least From Running

well, it had been over a week since i ran. being on call for 4 days in a row really set me back. it took all week and then some to catch up on rest. i decided on thursday i needed one more day so on friday i had to run. i decided i would do 3 miles to get my legs stretched after a long lay-off. so i did 3 miles with my new shoes. to start i could really tell the new shoes were helping my stride, i felt like for so long i had been fighting my shoes and now they were helping me. that was until 1/2 mile when i could tell the sides of my feet were really hurting. my feet hurt the rest of the run, bad. then they hurt worse when i stopped, like i stepped on a knife blade with both feet. my time was 32.10, which is about average for me. i tried to wait until it had cooled off but it was still muggy and every time i ran by a newly cut yard i thought my lungs weren't going to expand at all. my entire body felt so tight. here are my times and heart rates in 1/2 mile increments:

.5= 4:48 161
1.0= 9:27 4:38 176
1.5= 14:59 5:32 174
2.0= 20:41 5:42 174
2.5= 26:13 5:32 173
3.0= 32:10 5:57 173

the first mile was pretty good and then i slowed down a bit.

i was going to run 5 on saturday just to get back into it a little then i thought i had already ran 8 miles before so i could surely do it again. i waited until sunset because it was so hot during the day. i forgot to put my camelback in the back pack before i filled it up with water, no problem i just zipped it into on of the pockets on the back. i felt pretty good even though i was running miles 1.5 through 8 on a road with no street lights, pretty much completely in the dark. the wind was up a little, felt pretty good and kept the mosquitoes from all the ponds from attacking me. at mile 4.5 my camelback fell out of the zippered pocket and i had to stop and put it back in at a walk. that slowed me down a little. then emily picked me up at mile 8 so i didn't have to run on the busy road after dark. other than her picking me up i didn't see a single car on the road i was running. i wore my old shoes with some different inserts and my feet felt good until i stopped and then my plantar tendon was a little painful. here are my splits and heart rate in 1/2 mile increments:

.5= 5.06 152
1.0= 10.34 5.28 165
1.5= 16.10 5.35 166
2.0= 22.04 5.53 169
2.5= 28.04 6.00 169
3.0= 34.26 6.22 171
3.5= 40.23 5.57 172
4.0= 46.20 5.57 171
4.5= 52.56 6.36 169
5.0= 58.08 6.11 168
5.5= 65.12 6.04 169
6.0= 71.16 6.04 170
6.5= 77.17 6.00 169
7.0= 83.06 5.49 171
7.5= 88.56 5.49 172
8.0= 94.32 5.35 177

near the end of the run i was feeling pretty good and my increments after mile 4.5 kept getting faster (or the same as the last 1/2 mile) and i was able to finish pretty strong.

thought of the day:"I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody."– Lily Tomlin. this quote reminds me of a book i read about a year ago called "QBQ- the question behind the question". it is about taking responsibility for things instead of blaming others. it really goes into more depth than that but it has really opened my eyes to the way i view things that happen in life, takes about a day or less to read.
